Chess Blog
![]() ![]() Chess Blog 101 - Monthly Update The past month has been a busy one for our blog. Lots of new articles and two ambitious projects taking place with our Chess Terminology and Encyclopedia of Chess Openings, both of which are still a work in progress. The chess terms is probably one on the most complete listings of chess terminologies available. Our sources for this project include, Chess Terminology from Wikipedia which we are a proud member and contributor, the Chess Glossary (A-Z), at Chess.About.com, edited by our friend in correspondence, Mark Weeks. Mark has a personal blog where he writes things about chess that he can't write about, in the other places he writes about chess, (boy, is that a mouth full) at Chess for All Ages. Mark has provided us useful information in our endeavour here, which we appreciate and are thankful for. Lastly, we also used two other sources for information which are, Glossary of Chess Terms written by Jeremy Silman, and finally, Chess Terms and Definitions written by Dan Heisman. Our Encyclopedia of Chess Openings is fairly straight forward, with the exception we have included the png for each opening. Eventually, we will list every opening at the top of each volumn with a link to the png. This is a huge undertaking, so this will be implemented little by little as time permits. This also proved to be rather troublesome with our rss feed service, as the file size seems to be to large for Feedburner.com. We are currently looking for another feed provider that can handle the larger file sizes we require. On the bright side, with the addition of the ECO our generic search results tripled and the time spent on our blog has increased substantially. As always our main concern is providing our guests with quality information. Another substantial project we completed was Chess Rules which is geared towards the beginner and novice player. This is a very comprehensive essay with a lot of useful information and worth reading. We are also getting closer to establishing a social network for chess enthusiasts. The only thing holding back this project is the domain name, which we are currently negotiating on with the owner of the domain we would like to use. It also looks like I will be rather busy in a couple of weeks which will occupy most of my time. I will be starting a new project then which will last at least a year, leaving me little time to update or write anything new here on our blog. That is about it for now. Take care my friends. Ray |
